Meeting Hispanic Seamstress and Tailor Women in Chicago!
For my solo exhibition
“Round and Round” I will transform the Lakeside Legacy Foundation Dole gallery
by merging performance and fiber art into one performative installation
that celebrates migration and the immigrant experience, and gender roles
in Hispanic cultures. This show will happen in summer.
Doña Evely's Sewing Shop Doña Evely's Sewing Shop
This is a large project that involves collaboration with seamstresses and tailor who are Hispanic immigrants or second generation immigrants in Chicago. Recently, I got to meet few seamstresses interested in collaborate in this project in Pilsen and La Villita neighborhoods in Chicago.
During this research, I found that there are more men tailors than women in many businesses. This has been such a gratifying process. I feel back in Colombia when I was a student who goes to many places in Bogotá to find meet people and resources.
Thank you so much to all these professionals that give sometime to talk with them about my project and to the women who will be part of "Round and Round"
